Low Fat Banana Recipes: Banana and Ginger Brulee

This is one of my favourite low fat banana recipes! What is a banana and ginger brulee?

A couple of weeks ago I did not know. A couple of weeks since, I've experienced one of the most delicious low fat banana recipes I've ever tried!

But that still does not tell you what on earth is a brulee.

Well, in simple terms, it is a banana custard baked dessert. In this recipe, it is banana-based (as it's main ingredient is... bananas!).

Nutritional Information:

Serves 8

Fat: 10 g

Cal: 190

KJ: 813

WW: 4 Points

Ingredients:

2 cups of low fat cream

4 egg yolks

85 g (1/3 cup) of caster sugar

2 bananas

2 tsps of ground ginger

This is what you do:

For starters, you should preheat your oven to 300 F (150 C).

Then, heat the cream till it almost boils.

Beat together the egg yolks and 1/4 cup of caster sugar.

Pour the warm cream onto the egg mixture, whisking.

Now, get 8 ovenproof dessert dishes (called "ramekin dishes"), and place them in an ovenproof dish.

Then, pour water into the big ovenproof dish, so that it comes up about 1/2 inch up the sides of the ramekin dishes.

Peel the bananas and slice them. Place the banana slices into each ramekin dish.

Sprinkle the ginger over the bananas, and pour the custard mixture over the bananas.

Next, place the ovenproof dish (with the water and ramekin dishes) into the over for about an hour.

Remove them when the top goes golden, and set aside to cool down.

Now, pour the rest of the sugar in equal amounts on top of each custard dish. Start your broiler (grill) and place the custard dishes under it till the sugar melts and turns brown.... yummmm!

But wait... it's not ready yet!

Once the sugar goes brown, remove the desserts, and set aside to cool down. Place in the fridge after that, and chill them.

You can eat them once they are nice and cold.

As my friend Zeta says "I love it, love it, love it! Yummmm!"

Enjoy.
