Low Fat and Low Sugar Green Smoothies

by Mashubi

I am always trying to eat more fresh greens, and it is difficult especially in the wintertime, for me to eat several large, fresh salads a day.

At the same time, I don't want to load up on sugar, fats or extra calories, so I've come up with a really quick, simple low fat and low sugar green smoothie recipe that isn't too sugary. You can adjust this to your own taste, and to what fruits and veggies you have available.

Ingredients:

2 cups pure water

Handful of fresh or frozen blueberries (or other berries)

Handful of fresh greens (spinach or dark green salad greens mix is best)

1 leaf of kale or chard (optional - some people find the taste too strong, but I like the extra greens!)

1 fresh apple, cut and cored

Stevia, xylitol or other low sugar sweetener to taste. I usually use 3 - 20 drops of Sweet Leaf liquid stevia which is sweet but with no bitterness like most stevia. This takes away any "green" taste and is delicious!

Optional:

1 serving low fat protein powder such as Nutribody Protein

Directions:

Place all ingredients in blender and blend on high. Serve immediately. This recipe generally yields one very large 30 oz green smoothie, or two smaller glasses. Enjoy!

P.S. This recipe is one of many that I use to stay healthy, and you can find additional natural health information at my site.

I’m trying out green smoothies because, unlike green juices, they retain the fiber and are easier to clean up. There is a free 3-day course on green smoothies available at http://www.greensmoothiequeen.com/gogreen/0310ripplemaker
